The Isle of Man Law Society was pleased to welcome Lady Hale as its guest speaker on the 5 December 2018.   In 2004, Lady Hale joined the House of Lords where she served as a Law Lord until 2009 when the Lords transferred to the new Supreme Court. Lady Hale served as Deputy President of the Supreme Court from 2013 to 2017.

On 5 September 2017, Lady Hale was appointed as President of the Supreme Court, and was sworn in on 2 October 2017. She is the third person and first woman to serve the role, which was established in 2009.

Lady Hale met with the Family Advocates together with invited guests for an informal lunch.  Lady Hale later met with His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor, Judiciary, advocates, the Sponsors, Appleby and Mr Terence McDonald, and members of the public for canapés and drinks before presenting her lecture HUMAN RIGHTS AND FAMILY LIFE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM AND ISLANDS.  The lecture was very well received by a packed Manx Museum lecture theatre and was followed by a questions from the audience ending with a rapturous round of applause.
