In essence, it is the function of the President to oversee all aspects of the Manx Bar and to direct and lead all members of the profession. The Advocates Acts 1976 and 1995 deal with the constitution, general functions and powers of the Isle of Man Law Society and set out provisions regarding qualification and practice as an Advocate.

Executive Team

The Executive Team was formed in 2010.

The Executive Team supports Council in the following ways:

  • Policy drafting
  • Disciplinary & Complaints handling
  • External Relationships
  • Compliance Programme
  • Compliance Helpline
  • Professional Indemnity Insurance
  • Queries
  • Processing applications
  • Training & Education
  • Events’ management

None of the Executive Team are advocates.  As the Manx Bar is a small professional body, the Executive resource is compact.

Chief Executive Officer, Juan Moore is a member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators with in excess of 20 years administrative and accounting experience working primarily in the fiduciary sector, managing complex structures for high net worth clients sitting on the board of client companies.  Juan has also worked within the legal profession in the accounts team of a prominent firm of advocates and as practice manager for a Manx advocate.

Supervision Executive, Ysanne Williamson, joined the Society in 2015 and together with Chris, is the Society’s focal point for the conduct of Supervisory Visits within practices.  Ysanne received her Advocates Commission in 2003 but left the profession in 2004 to join the Isle of Man Constabulary where she worked in the Financial Crime Unit assisting in money laundering investigations.  Ysanne also worked in the area of international co-operation and represented the Island at the 2010 international asset recovery conference in Prague.

Supervision Executive, Chris Cain, joined the Society in March 2017 and together with Ysanne, is the Society’s focal point for the conduct of Supervisory Visits within practices.  Chris has an extensive Police background having initially joined Greater Manchester Police where he was a Detective on Crime squads targeting organised crime. He transferred to the IOM Constabulary in 1991 where he worked in specialist departments including Detective Roles, Police Prosecutions, Professional Standards and Financial Crime Unit. His last role within the Constabulary was as the Head of International Cooperation for the FCU dealing with international money laundering matters. After his retirement from the Constabulary, Chris has worked in the Island’s Banking and Insurance sector on remediation projects and as a designated Money Laundering Reporting Officer.

Administrator, Jacky Lloyd is the Society’s full time administrator. She is the first point of contact for many members of the profession and members of the public alike. Jacky is responsible for all areas of administration including distribution of the weekly newsletter, maintaining members’ files and the Society’s database, processing applications to enter the profession and organising the Duty Advocate rotas to name just a few tasks which fill her day.
